Thank you for considering joining our team of volunteers at SoHumane. Each year, our volunteers donate more than 20,000 hours of service to animals in need. Not all volunteers chose to work directly with the cats and dogs, but contribute greatly to the many other tasks that keep our operation going. Here are some of the volunteer opportunities at SoHumane.
SoHumane’s goal is for each dog to be walked at least once a day. Requires a weekly 3-hour commitment between the hours of 11:00 am and 5:00 pm on a scheduled day of the week.
These individuals become familiar with each dog’s personality, behavior and history in order to help prospective adopters find the animal best suited for their lifestyle. Requires a weekly 3-hour commitment between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on a scheduled day of the week.
The PALS program matches students with a specific dog or cat. The individual attention received from quality time with a PALS volunteer is vital to ensuring that an animal stays highly socialized. For students between the ages of 16-20. Requires a 3-5 hour per week mandatory commitment. Hours can be used for school credit or community service. Program placement is at the sole discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator
Young volunteers spend quality time with a parent or guardian while learning the responsibility of caring for a pet, developing empathy for living things, and experiencing the positive rewards of community service. For students ages 12-15. Requires a weekly commitment not to exceed 1½ hours on a scheduled day of the week. Student must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Regular attention to the structure and surroundings of the facility is critical to keeping animals, staff, volunteers and visitors safe and secure.
